Anyone who’s ever dated in high school or college has faced dating on a tight budget. It’s amazing how creative people can be when they are younger and how tough it seems to deal with on a budget. Frugality doesn’t have to mean boring or uninteresting, it just means creative.
If you’re on a budget, plan for an old fashioned picnic at a nice park or a state park. The food for a picnic doesn’t need to be fancy, but enjoying something like a picnic and a walk through a beautiful area can let two people really get to know each other and enjoy each other’s company. Isn’t that what dating is? Getting to know someone better?
There’s lots of different things you can do on a date that don’t require spending a lot of money. Visit a bookstore or a museum together if you both enjoy books or art. Visit a mall you’ve never been to before or go see a music laser show at a planetarium or museum. Most laser light shows are incredibly impressive and cost very little for admission.
Explore taking dance lessons, many studios will offer the first lesson for free. Wander a car dealership and take the car of your dreams out for a test spin. Check out local and community theaters. Many of these offer very well done shows for very low cost and your seats will be close to the stage rather than in the balconies. Many areas have local flea markets or discount malls or even just large areas of antiques. Look for some unexplored area that you’ve been curious about and explore it together.
The fun of a date is the time spent with your partner. Yes, a trip to Disney World, a night on Broadway or a fancy dinner in a fondue restaurant are all a lot of fun too, but they aren’t the only way to have fun. Discover how creative you can be on a budget and spend your time and not your money.
